The Job Search

When I was looking for a job at the beginning of the school year, I soon realized how necessary it is to have a digital resume. Some of the jobs that I applied to did not even require a traditional resume. All of the information they needed was included in a form that they provide. Many jobs for college students are like that. I did not get called back to many of the jobs and I wonder if I turned in my traditional resume as well, if I would have gotten more call backs. I guess I'll never know. All I can do is do that the next time I'm looking for a job. I hope that my next job search will be more prosperous.

Hi Jen - The reality is that you need to have a strategy in today's job market. Whether your first job or your third, the market is competitive and available jobs aren't always easy to find. Networking is key. Sites like Facebook, My Space and Linkedin are ways to begin this effort but it needs to also include other networking efforts like phone calls, networking events, job fairs. You need to show your face and interact in circles where hiring managers are hanging out!

I write a blog on job search - you are welcome to stop by if interested at http://quixoting.typepad.com/spin_strategy

Hi Jen:

As a Career Management Professional, I always recommend my clients are proactive and have different versions of their resume.

As the previous comment states on line and in person networking are going to reap the best rewards.

Best of luck
