Go lay an egg

As Seymour so sagely advised in his last post, when you're in a workplace where layoffs are imminent (today, this means any workplace), picking up freelance work is a good way to up your job security and lay a nice nest egg. If you get that dreaded call to the Big Office, not only will you have something to fall back on your quest for a more stable income, but you'll be acquiring more diverse career skills and making more connections than you would in the cubicle. If you get lucky, you may even find that freelancing pays more than your old job did and choose to stick with it. At any rate, it's definitely something to look into, and with the Internet's wealth of free advice and freelance job listings at your fingertips, what are you waiting for?

The Good, the Bad, and the Unpaid

Having worked on a freelance basis since before graduating high school, I've never had the experience of working a traditional internship or temp position. Some say I'm fortunate, others say I'm missing out. My take on the situation leans toward the latter opinion, but I'd like to hear the thoughts of those of you who've been in the fray. What's the good, the bad, and the ugly of interning and temping? Am I missing out on a valuable life experience, or have I been spared a huge headache? Let's hear it.
