So Much Preparation.

My sorority had Spring Recruitment a couple weeks ago. So much preparation goes into three days of recruitment parties. We had recruitment workshops, we had to buy specific outfits and go through an outfit check, and we had to learn how to act and treat our potential new members. I realized that preparing for recruitment was like learning how to handle yourself at a business party, or even what and what not to say in an interview. We were taught different strategies for making conversation, and what things to look for in the girls that will most benefit our organization.

We have already started our recruitment workshops for the fall. Everything about being in a sorority is preparing you for jobs after college. It also looks really good on Grad school applications, so that's a plus.

All in all I'm really happy about my decision to join and love all the wonderful girls I have met along the way.

Recruitment was long, hard and stressful but we wound up getting 12 new girls that I adore :)

Spring recruitment

It's weird being on the other side of recruitment this time. Last semester I was one of the girls hoping to get a bid from a certain sorority and now I'm in the position of giving the bids.

It was last Wednesday through Friday, each day was a different theme and we had to wear specific outfits. We got to talk to a bunch of potential new members and hopefully find out if each of the girls is compatible with our sorority.

We gave out bids last friday night and this week we have planned nights to get to know our new girls. :) I'm so excited!

Elections.

Ugh, electing officers in my sorority is an extremely long and tedious process. It took us two Sundays-- 5 hours each Sunday! On the first Sunday we broke into caucuses. Your caucus is dependent upon the grade you are in at school. After breaking into caucuses we began election process.

There were at least 30 positions that needed to be filled for the next year, and we had to go through each position listing three pros and cons for each of the candidates. If there was a tie, we had to start the process all over. Each of the individual caucuses did this and by analyzing each of the caucuses slates the first final slate was formed.

The next Sunday, we voted on whether or not we wanted to pass the slate as is, but it did not pass. So we did the whole election process over with the entire sorority, rather than caucuses, making a completely new FINAL slate.

Before we even began elections all of the potential candidates had to fill out pref sheets, which are basically like resumés. They list what positions the girls would like in order of preference and all of their qualifications. We used the pref sheets to help us make our decisions. It was long and tedious but in the end I'm really happy about our newly elected officers.

Sorority life vs. jobs.

Sorority life is so much fun and I love all my sisters. There is always something to do. I'm never bored unless I want to be, it's great. It's been like practice for the real world: The recruitment process is a lot like interviewing for a job. Bid day is like finally getting that job you've been hoping for. Getting to know my sisters is synonymous with getting to know your co workers. And, working with my sisters to accomplish something is teaching me to handle group situations which I will more than likely come across in a job. I know that having a job isn't going to be as exciting and fun as being in a sorority but, it's kind of neat drawing that comparison.

First week in college

My first week in college was nothing short of fantastic. Sharing my living space with 7 other people was shocking to say the least. Despite the fact that, for the last 18 years, I have lived with all the luxuries of an only child, having a roommate isn't all bad.

For the past week I have been participating in sorority recruitment. Recruitment has been one of the most hectic and fun times I have ever been through. It was a lot like an interview for a job, except you were being interviewed to become a part of their Greek family. I am now a pledge for a great group of girls.

No less than one day after recruitment ended I found myself running through a maze of buildings and offices in order to find my classes. Every student was more than willing to point out where I needed to go or where I could find help. I love all of my classes and I can't wait to embark on this wonderful journey.

As I sit here typing I can't help but think about what the future holds or even what to expect tomorrow.
